Supporting Mobile Commerce Applications Using Dependable Wireless Networks.

Mobile Commerce( m-commerce) is the latest field of study involving applications, mobile devices and wireless networks. M-commerce is an electronic commerce that also involves many more applications that becomes possible only due to wireless infrastructure.

Most of the m-commerce research focuses on applications, devices and security issues. The m-commerce applications include mobile financial applications, mobile advertising, mobile inventory management, product locating, shopping, wireless data center. The impact of lack of wireless dependability is likely to be quite different for these applications. For example, Applications such as mobile financial applications may be more affected by failure in wireless networks than applications such as mobile advertising where value and real time processing may not be crucial factors.

The dependability of the wireless infrastructure is a very crucial requirement for supporting m-commerce applications.

Improving wireless dependability for mobile commerce.

  • Improving dependability using better design &component:                                                                   The dependability attributes of wireless networks may be enhanced by certain design changes. This could incude deployment of more reliable components and links and also how these components are connected. The dependability can further be improved by establishing a faster recovery time.

  • Improving dependability using fault-tolerant architectures:                                                                Fault tolerance can be introduced in wireless networks in one or more places. These include  devices, cell, switch, blocks and network levels.
